Clifford Olson, 69

Thief River Falls - Clifford Olson, 69, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Olson, Clifford Saturday, July 20 at Silver Creek Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. David Pretty officiating. Kathy Nelson was organist, and Joel and Laura Rude sang "On Eagles Wings" and "Go Rest High on That Mountain." Casketbearers were Larry Ohren, Robert Bentow, Steve Muzzy, Allen Bertilrud, Alvin Bertilrud, Gerald Didrikson, Michael Pesek, Ole Wiskow and Dale Wiskow. Honorary casketbearers were the Pennington County Highway Department employees and all those who considered Clifford a friend. Military honors were provided by the Greenbush American Legion Post. Interment was in Narodni Hrbitov Cemetery (Gust National Cemetery) in Strathcona.

Clifford Edward Olson was born in Strathcona June 15, 1933, the son of Albert and Lizzie (Bentow) Olson. After attending rural school, Clifford entered the Army on May 19, 1953 and served in France. He was honorably discharged on May 4, 1955. Following his discharge he began working road construction and for the U.S. Forestry Service in Grygla.

On June 15, 1957, Clifford married Maxine Pesek at Our Redeemer Church in Badger. They moved to Grygla where he worked for the U.S. Forest Service in 1958. In 1969, Clifford began working for the City of Thief River Falls and the couple moved to rural Thief River Falls in 1970. In 1975, Clifford became employed by Pennington County, where he worked until his retirement in 1997. He and his wife also farmed and raised cattle.

Among his favorite pasttimes, Clifford enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He held memberships with the Eagles, VFW, Thief River Falls American Legion and WFLA Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine; children, Sheryl Melby of Hawley, and Jeffrey (Lorna) Olson of Thief River Falls; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle Bertilrud of Greenbush; and a brother, Sanford Olson of Greenbush.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents.
