Alyce Olson, 87

Thief River Falls - Alyce Olson, 87, died on Sunday, May 18, 2003 at her home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21 (today) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with the Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Ida Nordvall will be the organist and Joel Rude will be the soloist. Casketbearers will be Steven Oostenink, Jim Anderson, Scott Anderson, Jason Peterson, Jarrod Peterson, Joel Rude and Jim Rude. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Alyce Van Der Woude was born on January 16, 1916, the daughter of Andrew and Anna Katharine Marie (Horster) Van Der Woude, in St. Ann Parish, Netherlands. She emigrated to the United States with her parents when she was four years old.

In 1934, she married Gerrit Tilstra. They had one daughter, Ann Marie.

On November 11, 1953, she married Frank Olson. They had two daughters, Barbara and Betty. They moved to Thief River Falls in 1963. Alyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she spent many hours making quilts. She worked as a housekeeper for a number of local residents over the years and also worked as a custodian at Lincoln High School.

Survivors include daughters, Ann Marie (Herman) Oostenink of Mountain Home, Ark., Barbara Lynn (Phillip) Kotta of Warroad, and Betty Ann (fiancé Curtis Carpenter) Peterson of Thief River Falls; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Jorgenson of McMinnville, Ore.

Alyce was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerrit Tilstra, Henry Hasse and Frank Olson; a sister, Wilhelmina "Billie" Trygg; and her parents. A00003B2003MY21
