Marie R. Olsen, 90

Karlstad - Marie R. Olsen, 90, died on Thursday morning, March 11, 2004 at the Karlstad Healthcare Center.

Funeral services were held on Marie Olsen Tuesday, March 16 at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad, with Pastor Gary Halverson and Pastor Raynard Huglen officiating. Casket bearers included: Erling Huglen, Raynard Huglen, Roger Thompson, Kenneth Olson, David Nystuen and Rodney Thompson. Interment was held at Trinity Cemetery in Edinburg, N.D.

Marie Regina Olsen, the daughter of the late Sam and Mae (Nelson) Lee, was born on May 31, 1913, in Newfolden. She attended school and grew to womanhood there, graduating from Newfolden High School in 1931. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Marie was employed at the Newfolden Post Office following high school. On September 1, 1940, she was united in marriage to Olger B. Olsen in Newfolden. The couple resided in Ipswich, S.D., then moved to Grand Forks, N.D. They later resided in Hallock and in 1945 moved to Karlstad. Marie was an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Karlstad and active in church affairs. Olger died February 5, 1998.

Since September of 1997, she had made her home at the Karlstad Healthcare Center.

Survivors include one son, Byron of Karlstad; one daughter, Myrna Harper of Minneapolis; one granddaughter; one brother, Sherman (Arlene) Lee of Menomonie, Wis.; two sisters, Ivy (Keith) Hakes of Sierra Vista, Calif. and Prudence (David) Nystuen of Lakeville; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Sanford; and two sisters, Olive Lindquist and Marguerite Pearson.
