Palmer Olofson, 77

Thief River Falls - Palmer M. Olofson, 77, died on Monday, October 21, 2002 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Palmer Olofson Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 26 at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke with Rev. Sandra Hollands. Gloria Sistad was the organist and MaryAnn Lunsetter was the soloist. Special selections included "On Eagle's Wings" and "Borning Cry." Casketbearers were Palmer's grandnephews, Justin Lunsetter, Jesse Lunsetter, Scott Larson, Chad McQuillan, Mark McQuillan and John McQuillan. Honorary casketbearers were Palmer's grandchildren, Justin Larson, Charles Larson, Roger Larson, Amanda Stucky, Katie Stucky, Tressa Stucky, Roy Hinebaugh, Patrick Hinebaugh and Tyler Hinebaugh. Interment was in Landstad Cemetery in Gatzke with military honors accorded by the Middle River American Legion Post #444.

Palmer Olofson was born on January 25, 1925, the son of Martin and Anna (Magnusen) Olofson in Veldt Township, near Gatzke. He attended school and grew up in the Gatzke area. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He worked for Gatzke area farmers and from January 1945 until September 1947, he served with the U.S. Army. Palmer served in Japan and Holland. Following his discharge, he worked as a farm laborer in Montana for several years and then in Arizona and California. In 1995, he returned to the Gatzke and Grygla communities. He has resided at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls since August 2002.

Survivors include three daughters, Debbie (Gary) Larson of Ft. Benton, Mont., Ramona Hirdman of Tennessee and Jody Stucky of Belgrade, Mont.; a step-daughter, Tammy Moore of Alaska; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Marvin of Crookston; a sister, Mildred (Rueben) Kilbo of Braham; a brother-in-law, Walter Lunsetter of Gatzke; a sister-in-law, Mildred Olofson of Chisholm; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Palmer was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Melvin, Henry, Art, Harold, Herman, Noble and Berger; and one sister, Mable Lunsetter. A00003B2002OT30
