Janet Offerdahl, 77

Fosston - Janet Offerdahl, 77, died Monday, December 24, 2001 at First Care Hospital in Fosston.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Cheryl Berg officiating. Interment was in Kingo Lutheran Cemetery with Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Service in charge of the arrangements.

Janet Delores Espeseth was born on October 25, 1924 in St. Paul, the daughter of Carl and Lillian (Amlee) Espeseth. She lived in St. Paul until she was five years old and moved with her family to Minneapolis and then Edina. She was confirmed at Lake Harriet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Janet attended Riley School and graduated from West High School and Miss Woods Teachers School, all in Minneapolis. During World War II, she spent a summer in California working at a center for children of defense workers. Janet returned to Minnesota and taught first grade in Hanley Falls for a year before moving to Fosston where she taught first grade for two years.

On December 27, 1947, Janet married Clarence Offerdahl at Lake Harriet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. The couple resided in Fosston where they owned the Hartz grocery store for many years.

Janet and Clarence traveled to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Hawaii, Trinidad and Tobago, Germany and Spain and wintered in Texas for 14 years. They owned a cabin at Roy Lake for many years and a farm near Fosston where her parents spent many summers.

Since the time of her marriage, Janet was a member of Kingo Lutheran Church. She taught Friday school, was a Girl Scout leader and was president of the American Legion Auxiliary for two years.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence; a daughter, Mary Jo (Dennis) Rud of Fosston; a son, Jim (Ann) of Fosston; six grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanore McBrian of California and Lorraine Sullivan of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents. A00003B2001JA02
