- Ella Oertwich, 102, died Sunday, April 22,
2001 at Karlstad Healthcare Center in
Karlstad.
Funeral
services will held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday,
April 25) at Karlstad Baptist Church in Karlstad
with Rev. Gary Gutknecht officiating. Special music
will be provided by Rev. Gary and Becky Gutknecht.
Casketbearers will be Wayne Oertwich, Mike
Oertwich, Scott Oertwich, Christopher Burslie, Mark
Oertwich and Harry Bengtson. Interment will be in
Karstad Cemetery in Karlstad.
Visitation
was held Tuesday, April 24, after 3 p.m. at Collins
Funeral Chapel in Karlstad. Visitation will also be
held for one hour prior to services at the church.
Ella Emma Lucas was born on August 13, 1898 at
Norfolk, Neb., the daughter of Ira and Anna
(Ratzloff) Lucas. As a child, she moved with her
parents to Fairmont where she attended school and
grew up.
On
December 21, 1924, Ella was united in marriage to
Ernest Oertwich at Fairmont. The couple made their
home in Fairmont until 1932 when they moved to the
Karlstad community. They farmed in the Pelan area
and later in Deerwood township of Kittson county.
In 1947, they moved into Karlstad. Ella was
employed as a cook at Karlstad Memorial Hospital
for several years and at Clark Bolin's restaurant.
She also worked as a telephone operator for
Wikstrom Telephone Company.
Ella
was an active member of Karlstad Baptist Church for
many years where she taught Sunday school, was
active in the ladies group and served as church
treasurer. After Ernie's death on August 6, 1987,
Ella moved into an apartment in Karlstad. Since
November of 1994, she had resided at Karlstad
Healthcare Center.
Ella
is survived by two sons, Alvin (Barbara) Oertwich
of Fertile and Richard (Marilyn) Oertwich of St.
Paul; a daughter, Velva (Darrel) Neal of Kent,
Wash.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;
a great great-granddaughter; a sister, Maude Struck
of St. Paul; and several nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
She
was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a
son in infancy; a brother, Harlan; and two sisters,
Vera Peterson and Ruby Lemke.
