Thief
River Falls - Anna Nyland, 96, formerly of
Gully, died on Monday, November 11 at Oakland Park
Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services were held on Friday, November 15 at Lund
Lutheran Church in Gully with Rev. Michael Sletto
officiating. Interment was held in Lund Lutheran
Cemetery in Gully.
Anna
Karine Groven was born on June 13, 1906, the
daughter of Olaf and Lomina Groven in Nissadal,
Norway. She came to the United States as a young
girl.
On
July 2, 1925, she married Henry Nyland in Oklee.
Shortly after she was married, Anna's mother died
and she took over raising her four brothers. Anna
and Henry farmed near Gully. When Henry died in
1952, she stayed on the farm for many years, until
moving into Gully. In 1999, she moved to Oakland
Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.
Anna
was a member of Lund Lutheran Church in Gully,
where she had been active for many years. She loved
to cook and read and loved her animals, especially
her cats and cows.
Survivors
include a sister-in-law, Vany Larson of Roseau;
seven nieces and nephews; and three
cousins.
Anna
was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, and
four brothers, Alfred and Gehart Groven and Ted and
Herbert Larson.
