Nornes, 76
Finley,
N.D. - Maurice B. "Mush" Nornes, 76, died
Sunday, April 1, 2001 at MeritCare Hospital in
Fargo, N.D.
Funeral
services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday,
April 4, at Finley Lutheran Church in Finley with
Rev. Darrel Olson and Phyllis Olson officiating.
Delphine Martin was the organist, and special music
was provided by Bobbie Ostrom. Casketbearers were
Dean Monson, Kjell Haaland, Steve Knudson, Kenny
Sandvik, Andy Haaland and Brian Espeseth. Military
honors were accorded by Finley American Legion Post
13. Interment was in Dovre Cemetery in Winger with
Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home of Finley, N.D.
in charge of the arrangements.
Maurice
B. Nornes was born on May 20, 1924 in Winger, the
son of Bernt and Martha (Grambo) Nornes. He grew up
and attended school in Winger and McIntosh,
graduating from McIntosh High School in 1942. He
entered the U.S. Navy in September of 1944 and was
honorably discharged in June of 1946. On August 2,
1947, he married Lorraine Johnson.
Maurice
was employed at Anderson Hardware, McIntosh
Creamery and was manager of VFW Post 6891 in
McIntosh.
On
October 17, 1967, he married Gladys (Berg)
Christofferson in Crookston. The couple moved to to
Finley, N.D. where Mush was manager of the Finley
Improvement Association, retiring in
1986.
He was a
member of Finley Lutheran Church, Finley American
Legion Post 13, a life member of VFW Post 6891 in
McIntosh, Cooperstown Country Club, Finley and
McIntosh Fire Departments and served on the Finley
Housing Board.
Maurice
is survived by his wife, Gladys of Finley, N.D.;
two sons, Lynn of McIntosh and Bruce (Kathy) of
Moorhead; two daughters, Gail (Steve) Knudson of
Sartel and Mary Beth (Brian) Espeseth of Thief
River Falls; three stepdaughters, Randi (Kenny)
Sandvik, Gail (Andy) Haaland and Carol (Dean)
Monson, all of Cooperstown, N.D.; nine
grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; four step
great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bernie (Jill)
of Fargo, N.D., George (Joyce) of Climax and Harold
(Marge) of Smyrna, Tenn.; a sister, Idelle (Roger)
Bagne of Ogema; and several nieces and nephews.
