Thief
River Falls - Alan Noreen, 69, died Friday,
August 24, 2001 at his home in Thief River
Falls.
Funeral
services were held at 10
a.m.
on Tues-day, August 28, at Zion Luth-eran Church in
Thief River Falls with Rev. Gary Johnson
officiating. Phyllis Dalager was the organist, and
Joel and Laura Rude were the vocalists.
Casketbearers were Brian Noreen, Luke Noreen, Mike
Noreen, Casey Noreen, Charlie Noreen and Craig
Mattson. Military honors were accorded by American
Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117 and VFW Post
2793. Interment was in Oak Ridge Lutheran Cemetery
in Norden township of Pennington county. Green
Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Alan
Leslie Noreen was born on May 10, 1932 in Alvarado,
the son of Charles and Alice (Bjorndahl) Noreen. He
was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He attended elementary schools north of Thief River
Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in
1950. Alan entered the U.S. Army on March 7, 1952
and was given high security rank in the Secret
Depot Department escorting high-ranking officers
through the United States and Germany. He was
honorably discharged on February 23,
1956.
In
1958, Alan was united in marriage to DeVonna
(Dunrud) Frederickson. He farmed and worked as a
police officer, retiring as chief of police. He
owned Johnnie's Cafe and later Dee's Kitchen. He
also managed the American Legion Club. In the late
1970s, Alan and his brothers formed Southtown
housing development. He traveled across the country
as a truck driving, amassing the collection of
ceramic pigs that once lined the shelves of Dee's
Kitchen. In recent years, he transported rental
cars while living in Aurora, Colo. When he returned
to Thief River Falls, he taxied railroad personnel
from job sites to home and was employed by a local
casino.
Survivors
include Dee Noreen; three daughters, Julie (Darrel
Schmitz) Steenerson of Mekinock, N.D., Marlys
(Mike) Swendra of Red Lake Falls and Nancy (Glenn)
Thompson of Thief River Falls; two sons, Jeff
(Marilyn) of Bowman, N.D. and James (Lila) of St.
Hilaire; 15 grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; three brothers, Art of Oregon,
Kelly (JoAnn) of Warroad and Kenneth (Tressie) of
St. Hilaire; a sister-in-law, Janice Noreen; and
several nieces and nephews.
Alan
was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters,
Louella Selmanson and Eleanor Day; and two
brothers, Chester and Lloyd.
