Alverda Noel, 79

Thief River Falls - Alverda Noel, 79, died on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist and Van Swanson was the soloist. Musical selections were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace." Casketbearers were Al Chrusczh, Wally Torkelson, Vern Quam, Brian Gillespie, Steve Gillespie, Danny Larson and Reed Korpi. Honorary casketbearers were all of Alverda's family and friends. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.

Alverda Mae Lund was born on January 31, 1923, the daughter of Frank Edwin and Alice (Haugan) Lund in Thief River Falls. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew up in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School. She also attended Aaker's Business College for two years in Fargo, N.D. Alverda served as a Yeoman in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in New York.

On April 19, 1944, Alverda was united in marriage to Duane Frederick Noel. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Alverda retired from the Bridgeman Creamery, where she worked as secretary for over 40 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117. She enjoyed sports, especially the Minnsota Twins. She also loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Joy (Neil) Gillespie of Thief River Falls; a son, Mike (Ruth Ann) of Custer, S.D.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd Lund of Thief River Falls.

Alverda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane; a daughter, Julie Larson; a sister, Jane; and brothers, George and Dennis. A00003B2002OT16
