Thief
River Falls - Walter Netteberg, 87, died
Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at the CNC Unit of Northwest
Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral
services were held Friday, April 5, at 2 p.m. at
Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev.
Gary Johnson officiating. Ida Nordvall was the
organist, and the soloist was Marie Engen.
Casketbearers included Maynard Peters, Don Nelson,
Todd Dufault, Royal Dufault, Ken Dunrud, and Vern
Lee. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief
River Falls with Green Funeral Home in charge of
the arrangements.
Walter
Henry Netteberg was born on March 9, 1915 in
Fosston, the son of Axel and Carrie (Anderson)
Netteberg. He grew up and attended school in
Strathcona. On August 1, 1941, he entered the U.S.
Army and served as a heavy equipment operator
during the Battle of the Bulge. He returned from
the service in 1945.
On
December 27, 1949, Walter married Ida Sovde at
Strathcona. He worked as a carpenter in Thief River
Falls for many years, building numerous homes and
buildings in town. Walter retired in the early
1980's. He resided at Valley Home for a short
time.
He
was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the
American Legion and VFW posts in Thief River
Falls.
Walter
enjoyed going for rides in his car and visiting
with family and friends.
Survivors
include two sisters, Cora Nelson of Thief River
Falls and Marion Rath of Billings, Mont.
Walter
was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two
brothers, Marvin and Clarence; and two sisters,
Alice Anderson and Della Boucher.
