Orlin Ness, 81

Holt - Orlin T. Ness, 81, died on Friday, February 21, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Ness, Orlin Tuesday, February 25 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt with the Rev. David Pretty officiating. Lois Peterson was the organist and a duet was sung by Lois Peterson and Lois Anderson. Casketbearers were Vanessa Ryba, Nolen Ryba, Jennifer Nelson, Troy Nelson, Janelle Rono, Ben Rono and Brian Ness. Interment was in the Holt Cemetery.

Orlin Ness was born on May 6, 1921, the son of Olaf T. and Inga (Johnson) Ness in East Valley Township of Marshall County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Holt.

On June 2, 1945, he married Thelma Leskinen in the Finnish Church in Middle River. The couple made their home in Holt. Orlin began working at the Marshall County State Bank in Holt in 1940. Later, he worked with his father at the Typha-Seed and Grain Business in Holt. In 1959, Orlin began working at the Thief River Falls Times as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1983.

Orlin was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church. He enjoyed listening to and recording old country music, gardening, watching and feeding the wildlife outside the window at his home, cooking and watching westerns on television. He also enjoyed kidding around and joking with kids.

Survivors include his children, Wayne (Mary) Ness of Ramsey, Marcene Ness of Westminster, Colo., LeMae (Roger) Ryba of Middle River, and Ronald of Holt; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Erickson of Iowa Falls, Iowa and Irene Harstad of Big Lake; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Orlin was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; his parents; and brothers, Rubin and Leonard.
