Gerald Ness, 74

Fargo, N.D. &endash; Gerald Ness, 74, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, in SCCI Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Gerald Dean Ness was born obit - Ness Gerald April 1, 1928, to Helmer O. and Florinda (Melquist) Ness, in Erskine. He was raised and attended school in Thief River Falls. Gerald served aboard the USS Taluga in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his discharge, Gerald worked for many years as a brakeman for the Great Northern Railway, now Burlington Northern & Santa Fe, in North Dakota and Minnesota. He married Beverly Peterson March 1, 1972, in South Dakota, and they made their home in Moorhead. Gerald was a member of the Eagles, VFW Post 1223, and Trinity Lutheran Church, all in Moorhead.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly, Moorhead; three daughters, Cathy (Skip) McGarvey, Devils Lake, N.D., Patti (Mylon) Coauette, Crookston, and Luanne Dean, Dodge City, Iowa; two sons, Mark (Catherine) Ness and Bobbi Ness, both Chicago, Ill.; two step-sons, Jim (Karen) Wainscott, Fargo, N.D., and Ron Wainscott, San Francisco, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ron (Darlyne), Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
