J. Nesland, 91
Cloquet
- Lucille Jennie Nesland, 91, of Cloquet and
formerly of Thief River Falls, died Wednesday,
February 25, 2004 in Community Memorial Hospital in
Cloquet.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday, Feb. 28 in
Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet. Interment
services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday,
June 3 at St. Olaf Cemetery in Grygla.
A
time of fellowship will follow at the Heritage
Center in Thief River Falls.
Lucille
was born July 17, 1912 in Achilles, Kan. to Roscoe
and Susan (Hackney) Ginther. She grew up in
Oberlin, Kan. and graduated from high school in
1928. She married Verl Magner in October of 1929 in
Oberlin, Kan. They moved to Thief River Falls in
1937 where together they farmed near Newfolden. In
1955, Lucille married Andrew Nesland in Thief River
Falls. They moved to Chicago in 1959 where together
they managed apartment buildings. They retired in
1974 and returned to Thief River Falls. Lucille was
a volunteer at the nursing home and with the
American Cancer Society. After her husband,
Andrew's death in 2000, Lucille moved to Cloquet.
She enjoyed making quilts, many of which were made
for the Red Cross. She also loved her collection of
more than 200 teddy bears.
Survivors
include her daughters, Phyllis Louze of Cloquet and
JoAnn (John) Abruscato of Chicago; stepson, David
(Donna) Nesland of Peotone, Ill.; seven
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three
step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson.
Lucille
was preceded in death her first husband, Verl
Magner; her second husband, Andrew Nesland;
daughter, Betty Lou Christiansen; infant sons,
Eugene and John Magner; sisters, Helen, Lila, Ruth
and Berla; and brother, Melvin.
