- Robert "Bob" E. Nelson, 67, died Thursday,
October 2, 2003 at his home in
Minnetonka.
Funeral
services were held
Tuesday,
Oct. 7 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley
and will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 at
Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with
visitation one hour prior to the service at the
church. Interment will be in Rindal Cemetery, rural
Thief River Falls.
Robert
"Bob" E. Nelson was born April 21, 1936 in rural
Goodridge, the son of Russell and Signe (Sabo)
Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran faith. Bob attended elementary school at
Busy Bee and Willowdale Schools in rural Thief
River Falls. He was taught by his mother, a school
teacher; from second grade through the sixth grade.
He attended seventh and eighth grade in Holt. He
graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953. Bob
served in the Korean War for two years and was
stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
When
Bob returned from the service, he worked at
Lakehead Pipeline in Viking. After a short time,
Bob moved to the Minneapolis area and founded Bobco
Inc. and TREW Properties.
On
November 26, 1961, Bob was united in marriage to
Margaret Strom. On December 5, 1970, he was united
in marriage to Diane Lee Ballinger in St. Paul, MN.
They lived in the Minneapolis area, including
Minnetonka and Medina.
After
retiring, Bob loved to be at his hobby farm in
Montevideo and spent the winter months at his home
in Scottsdale, Ariz. Bob loved hunting, fishing,
all sports, dancing, music, travel and most of all,
spending time with his children, grandchildren and
great grandson.
Bob
was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Golden
Valley, MN., the Golden Valley Country Club, the
Zurah Shrine, Anoka Lodge #30 AF&AM, Anoka, MN,
and Eagles Aerie #2368 Thief River
Falls.
Survivors
include his three children, Rob (Sue) Nelson and
Ross (Charlotte) Nelson, both of Minneapolis;
daughter Debbie Haskins of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six
grandchildren; one great grandson; sister, Jeannie
(Ray) Nelson of Thief River Falls; foster brother,
Tim (Jan) Wald of Brooklyn Center; former wife,
Diane Nelson of Minneapolis; special friend, Dee
Brooks. He is also survived by nieces, a great
niece, great nephews, an uncle, an aunt and several
cousins.
Bob
was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts
and uncles.
