Grygla
- Myrtle Nelson, 87, died on Friday, May 14,
2004 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River
Falls.
Funeral
services were held on
Monday,
May 17 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Rev.
Mary Ronning Gilthvedt officiating. Interment was
held at St. Olaf Cemetery in Grygla.
Myrtle
Askeland was born on November 12, 1916 at home in
Benville Township of Beltrami County, the daughter
of Sivert and Martha (Olson) Askeland. She was
baptized and confirmed at Valle Lutheran Church and
attended Fairview Country School.
Myrtle
was united in marriage to Vernon LeRoy Nelson on
August 29, 1943 at the parsonage in Grygla. The
couple farmed near Grygla and Myrtle helped with
all the chores. She also worked at the turkey plant
in Thief River Falls for 17 years.
She
enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, quilting and
loved spending time with her family, especially her
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Myrtle
was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the church
circle, Homemakers and the Senior
Citizen's.
Myrtle
is survived by one daughter, Gloria (Jim) Holte of
Grygla; two sons, Lyle (Linda) Nelson of Grygla and
LeRoy (Dorothy) Nelson of Thief River Falls; eight
grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three
brothers, Carlyle (Grace) Askeland of Grygla, Alton
(Ione) Askeland of Loveland, Colo. and Selmer
(Bernice) Askeland of Simms, Mont.; one sister,
Alvina (Alan) Tinsley of Yakima, Wash.;
sister-in-law, Tillie Askeland of Warroad; and
several nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; and
three bothers, Orville, Norman and Sidney.
