Mabel Nelson, 85

Erskine - Mabel Nelson, 85, formerly of Fosston, died on Sunday, September 22, 2002 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 27 at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 5 p.m. prayer service at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Mabel Gemina Ostgarden was born on October 2, 1916, the daughter of Herman and Betsy (Tuftt) Ostgarden in Gonvick. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Gonvick and Trail. On October 2, 1935, she was united in marriage to Arthur O. Nelson in Oklee. The couple lived in Trail until moving to Fosston in the spring of 1942. Mabel was employed at the Sather Clinic in Fosston for over 25 years and most recently at the Craft Shop in Fosston until 1998. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston.

Survivors include two daughters, Arlene (Merle) Barstad and Bonnie (Robert) Evje, both of Fosston; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Henrietta Svedahl, Hazel St. Germain and Irene Rud, all of Fosston; one brother, Clarence (Lois) Ostgarden of Fosston; one sister-in-law, Doris Nelson of Oklee; one brother-in-law, LaVern Grimm of Brooks; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Art; her parents; two brothers, Alvin and Ernest; one sister-in-law, Ardelle Ostgarden; three brothers-in-law, Albert Svedahl, Irvin St. Germain and Phillip Rud; and a infant great-grandson.
