Helga Nelson, 92

Thief River Falls - Helga Nelson, 92, died on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Nelson, helga Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27 (today) at the Westaker Church in Newfolden with Rev. Phil Rokke officiating. Michael Olson will be the pianist and Arrie McGregor will be the soloist, accompanied by Reuben Haugen. Casketbearers will be Kenneth Hjelle, Wyman Hjelle, Clayton Hjelle, Jerome Nelson, Gary Nelson and Clifford Nelson. Interment will be in Westaker Cemetery. Visitation will take place for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Helga Othelia Hjelle was born on July 7, 1910, the daughter of Hans and Oline (Brostalokken) Hjelle in Marsh Grove Township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended a country school in Marsh Grove Township.

On October 29, 1932, Helga was united in marriage to Edward Nelson in Newfolden. She worked as a cook's assistant at the Newfolden School for a few years and also cooked in a restaurant in Newfolden for a year.

Helga enjoyed gardening and flower gardens, crocheting and fishing with family and friends. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Westaker Church and the Ladies Aid.

Survivors include her two daughters, Muriel Underdahl and Yvonne (Elton) Underdahl, both of Newfolden; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Helga was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; a son-in-law, Harvey Underdahl; two grandsons; one great great-granddaughter; six brothers, Otto, Christ, Karinus, Melvin, Hjalmer and Andor; and two sisters, Marie Roner and Olga Johnson. A00003B2002NV27
