Gladys Nelson, 80

Thief River Falls - Gladys Nelson, 80, died Thursday, July 26 2001 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 30, at St. Pauli Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, with Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the organist, and special music was provided by Rev. Cuppett. Casketbearers were Don Mack, Ron Alberg, Chad Alberg, Tim Holland, Mark Taus and Arlo Rude. Interment was in the church cemetery. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Gladys Adeline Alberg was born on November 25, 1920 at her parents' home near Hazel, the daughter of Carl and Louise (Finstad) Alberg. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauli Lutheran Church in Rocksbury township of Pennington county and attended Busy Bee School in Hazel.

On December 31, 1940, Gladys was united in marriage to Norman Nelson at her parents' home. She and Norman farmed in Smiley township south of Thief River Falls. After Norman's death in 1962, Gladys moved into Thief River Falls where she had since resided. In 1999, she moved to the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center.

Gladys was a lifetime member of St. Pauli Lutheran Church where she belonged to various circles of its Ladies Aid.

She enjoyed the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, crossword puzzles and serving coffee to her friends at her home.

Gladys is survived by three sons, Jerry (Sue) Nelson of Wyoming, Roger (Ronda) Nelson of Fargo, N.D. and Neil (Barb) Nelson of Minneapolis; a son-in-law, Donald Mack of Warroad; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley (Theresa) Alberg of Thief River Falls; and four sisters, Lillian Ranum of Thief River Falls, Helen (Peggy) Rolland of Everett, Wash., Ruby (Glen) Engelstad of Seattle, Wash. and Connie (Jim) Kolden of Shoreview.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Carolyn Mack; and two sisters, Cleo Sterle and Mae Dinsmore.
