Gene Nelson, 61

Crookston - Gene Nelson, 61, died Friday, May 17, 2002 at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Donald Grove, at rural Crookston.

A memorial service was held Monday, May 20, at 3 p.m. at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston with Rev. Bill Humiston officiating.

Gene Francis Nelson was born on July 27, 1940 at Crookston, the son of Joe and Mabel (Brady) Nelson. He grew up in Crookston, graduating from Central High School in 1958. In 1960, he moved to Thief River Falls where he worked at Hartz Wholesale until his retirement in 1998.

In 1973, Gene was united in marriage to Patricia Waale at Thief River Falls. After his retirement, he moved to Tenstrike and had recently returned to Crookston to stay with his sister.

He enjoyed the Tenstrike area where he spent time around the lakes and with his friends.

Survivors include four brothers, Ivan (Yvonne) Nelson of Grand Forks, N.D., Roy (Jean) and Ray (Joyce), both of Crookston, and Vern Nelson of California; three sisters, Cheryl (Donald) Grove of Crookston, and Marilyn (Guy) Remme and Candace (Greg) Aamold, both of Grand Forks; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Preceding Gene in death were his parents and a daughter, Heather Jean. A00003B2002MY22
