Joy Nordby was the organist and Jennifer Nelson was the soloist. Musical selections included "On Eagles Wings" and "Wind Beneath My Wings." Interment was in St. Olaf Cemetery in Grygla.

Elvana "Elvy" Terry was born on August 14, 1922, the daughter of Mason and Alie (Meadows) Terry in Wetumka, Okla. She lived in a number of towns in Oklahoma and Kansas as a child. Following the deaths of her parents, she lived with her aunt and uncle, Cap and Oma Terry. During this time, Elvy was baptized into the Christian faith. During the depression years, the family moved to California, where Elvy graduated from high school and then worked as a waitress in Long Beach, Calif.

On June 9, 1946, she was united in marriage to Walter Nelson in Grygla. The couple made their home in Grygla and farmed in partnership with Walter's brother, Herschel. After Walter's death in 1994, Elvy continued to live on the farm until 2000, when she moved to Thief River Falls. She was active in Grace Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, going to Ladies Aid, serving with the circle and was a member of the Homemaker's Club. She was devoted to caring for her family, baking, cooking, canning, sewing, attending church and school functions and helping on the farm. She had learned to make milk mush, potato dumplings, lefse and lutefisk. She will be remembered for her cinnamon rolls and quilts.

Survivors include four children, Wayne (Mari Lou Anderson) of Grygla, Steven (Ann) of Port Charlotte, Fla., Barbara Nelson of St. Paul and Susan (Marc) Halverson of Thief River Falls; four grandchildren; one sister, Dorotha Nunn; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Elvana was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter-in-law, Paulette; and nine brothers and sisters. A00003B2002OT23
