Thief
River Falls - Curdis Nelson, 88, died Saturday,
March 23, 2002 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo,
N.D.
Funeral
services will be held at
10:30
a.m. on Thursday, March 28, at Zion Lutheran Church
in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dennis Raymond
officiating. Phyllis Dalager will be the organist,
and the soloist will be Diane Johnson.
Casketbearers will include Glen Arhart, Sherman
Johnson, Harold Dupree, Winton Forsberg, Harvey
Hanson, and Ben Heyn. Interment will be in
Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation
will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m.
prayer service today (Wednesday, March 27) at Green
Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will
also be held for one hour prior to services at the
church.
Curdis
Edward Nelson was born on February 24, 1914 in
Casselton, N.D., the son of Oscar and Annie
(Lubitz) Nelson. He was baptized at a Lutheran
church in Casselton on May 17, 1914 and confirmed
into the Lutheran faith on September 15, 1929. He
moved with his parents to Perham, and when he was
eight years old, the family moved to Goodridge.
Three years later, they moved to Germantown. Curdis
completed his education in Germantown and worked on
the family farm. In 1941, the family moved to Mavie
where they owned and operated the Mavie Store. In
1943, Curdis began working for the Soo Line
Railroad.
On
June 25, 1944, he was united in marriage to Ida J.
Johnson. The couple resided in Thief River Falls
until Curdis' retirement in 1970. The couple then
traveled south for the winter and spent their
summers at their lake home at Springsteel near
Warroad. In later years, they returned to Thief
River Falls.
Curdis
was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and
the Railroad Transportation Union.
Survivors
include his wife, Ida of Thief River Falls; four
sisters, Helen Olson, Violet (Bernie) Weigel, and
Lillian (Ralph) Klockman, all of Thief River Falls,
and Fern (Ken) Liden of Underwood; two
sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and two
godchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers,
Alfred and Elmer Nelson; three sisters, Gladys
Jorstad, Isabella Latta, and Alice Hruby; and two
