Alvina Nelson, 89

Greenbush - Alvina Nelson, 89, died on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at Greenbush Nursing Home in Greenbush.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 22 at United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush with the Rev. Ken Hart officiating. Darlene Waage was the organist and Corrine Mattson was the vocalist. Interment will be in Oiland Lutheran Cemetery of rural Greenbush.

Alvina B. Nelson was born on April 15, 1913, the daughter of Peder and Anna (Sodnak) Nelson in Soler Township of Roseau County. She grew up on her parents' farm and attended Distrtict #22 School near her home. She was baptized and confirmed in Oiland Lutheran Church. Alvina worked on the farm for many years. Her father died in 1943. She and her mother continued to live on the farm until they moved into Greenbush, where Alvina cared for her mother, who was ill. Her mother died in 1969. Alvina also worked at the Roseau Area Hospital in the laundry department and did childcare until she retired. She had been a resident of the Greenbush Nursing Home since October 1999, where she enjoyed playing bingo. Church was important to Alvina. In her younger years, she was a member of Oiland Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, was in the Ladies Aid and sang in the choir. In her later years, she was an active member of United Free Lutheran Church.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews; special friends, Dorothy and Monte Gross of Greenbush; and great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Elene Frislie, Inga Berget, Astrid Berger and a sister in infancy; and one great-nephew and one great-niece.
