Wash. - Arnold A. Nakken, 94, died on
Wednesday, May 7, 2003.
Interment
will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 21 at the
Rindal Lutheran Cemetery in Rosewood.
Arnold A.
Nakken was born in Newfolden on October 3, 1908,
the son of Gustav J. and Josephine (Rafteseth)
Nakken. He attended grade school in Rosewood. He
worked on the family farm while growing up and
continued to do so during the weekends and on
vacations while he attended Northwest School of
Agriculture in Crookston. In 1930, he moved to
Minneapolis, where he worked for the McGraw
Electric Company. In 1938, he moved to San
Francisco, where he purchased a grocery store.
Arnold was drafted into the Army Air Force in 1942
and served until 1945. In 1945, he went to work for
the U.S. Treasury Department in the Internal
Revenue Service until his retirement in
1972.
On
September 2, 1950, he married Elsa Johanson. The
couple made their home in and around the Santa Rosa
area. Arnold enjoyed working with his hands and
made many highly detailed items from metal and
wood. He was known for his sense of humor. In 1988,
Arnold and Elsa moved to the Linus Oaks Retirement
Center in Rosenburg, Ore., where they resided for
14 years. In January 2002, they moved to Bishop
Place Assisted Living Center in Pullman,
Wash.
Survivors
include his wife, Elsa of Pullman, Wash.; one niece
and one nephew; a sister-in-law, Hazel Nakken of
Minneapolis; and several cousins.
Arnold
was preceded in death by his parents; brothers,
John and Simon; and sister, Gladys Rix
Ruud.
