Thief
River Falls - Bernard Myers, 82, died on
Thursday, August 14, 2003 at Northwest Medical
Center in Thief River Falls. 
Funeral
services were held on Monday, August 18 at Faith
Lutheran Brethren Church in Thief River Falls with
the Rev. George Davis officiating. Casketbearers
were Craig Pladson Jr., Donald Flower, Shaun
Kramlinger, Matt Myers, Ben Myers, Tony Miramontes
and Lee Hamre. Interment was in Silverton Cemetery
in Thief River Falls.
Bernard
Luverne Myers was born in Faulkton, S.D., on March
5, 1921, the son of David C. and Edna (Schilling)
Myers. He was baptized and confirmed at Silver
Creek Lutheran Church. In 1936, his family moved to
the Excel Township, near Thief River
Falls.
On
July 16, 1944, he married Lucille Jeanette Williams
at Silver Creek Lutheran Church. After their
wedding, he entered the United States Army, serving
in the infantry from January 1945 until October
1946. His service took him to the Philippines and
Yokohama, Japan. He returned home after the service
to make his home on the farm in North Township of
Pennington County. In 1976, Bernard quit farming
and worked as a custodian in Thief River Falls,
mostly at Washington School and also at St.
Bernard's School and Church. He retired in 1983 and
moved to Roy Lake where he worked as a machinist
and retired from that in 1990. The couple moved
back to Thief River Falls in 1997.
Bernard
held offices at Silver Creek Lutheran Church, Nee
Gon Nee Church, North Township Board and the
Pennington County Fair Board. He was inducted into
the 4-H alumni, 4-H Hall of Fame and the FFA. He
was active with children's activities and was an
avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed music and
played the harmonica and violin. He also sang and
whistled for the residents at CNC.
Survivors
include his wife, Lucille of Thief River Falls;
children, Harold (Marian) of Thief River Falls,
Charlotte (Craig) Pladson of Ramsey, Charlene (Bob)
Kramlinger of Oakdale, Jerald (Tobey) of Thief
River Falls, Eldon of Thief River Falls and Daryl
(Kathy) of Kennewick, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and
six great-grandchildren.
Bernard
was preceded in death by his parents; brothers,
Arnold and Donald; and sisters, Inez Johnson and
Retta Hedland.
