Millie Motz, 92

Pelican Rapids - Millie Motz, 92, of Pelican Rapids, died on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.

Millie Olette Hovland was born July 7, 1911, in Lignite, N.D., the daughter of John Martin and Otilda (Halbakken) Hovland. She grew up near Pelican Rapids, attending country school district 276, now known as the Tri-club center. Millie was confirmed at Ringsaker Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. She worked as a cook for the road crew near Lignite. She also took care of her nieces and nephews. On February 14, 1948 Millie was united in marriage to Clifford Aas in Tacoma, Washington, where they went to elope. Clifford and Millie returned to rural Pelican Rapids where they farmed on Clifford's home farm in Norwegian Grove Township. Millie volunteered to play piano for the nursing home residents. Clifford died on July 1, 1961. Millie worked at Pelican Valley Nursing Home as a kitchen helper. On October 2, 1976 Millie married Dan Motz. Dan died October 17, 1988. In the fall of 1999 Millie entered Pelican Valley Nursing Home.

Millie loved being with her family and living on the family farm. Her faith and love for the Lord was a big part of her life. She was a member of North Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elizabeth circle and Ladies Aid. Millie enjoyed reading, dancing, playing piano and playing cards.

Survivors include a son, Dave (Lois) Aas of Pelican Rapids; a daughter, Margaret (Scott) Olson of Thief River Falls; five grandchildren; a sister: Elsie Bywater of Pelican Rapids; sisters-in-law: Lillian Aas of Pelican Rapids, and Evelyn Weldon of Kennewick, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three brothers, Art, Norman and Lloyd; and a sister, Gilma Sundby.
