Vernon Mossestad, 77

Fargo, N.D. - Vernon Mossestad, 77, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Thursday, January 23, 2003 at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 27 at Roseberry's Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisc. with Rev. John Stake officiating. Interment was in Townline Cemetery in Springville. Military rites were offered by the Adams VFW Post #6279, the Adams American Legion Red Cloud Post #250, the Grand Marsh American Legion Snyder-Richardson Post #273 and the Oxford VFW Post #6003.

Vernon Mossestad was born on October 6, 1925, the son of Julius and Anna (Brateng) Mossestad in Norden Township. He was baptized and confirmed at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church. He attended Lincoln High School. Vernon farmed on the family farm until 1950, when he joined the Army. He became a carpenter upon his return to civilian life and worked for Ranum construction.

On June 28, 1958, he married Helen Gilbertson in Thief River Falls. In 1960, the couple moved to Greenfield, Wisc. and lived there until their retirement in 1987, when they moved to Adams County. Helen died on April 13, 1994.

Vernon married Marvel Stalvik on June 1, 1996 in West Fargo, N.D. He was a member of Carpenters Union 0344, the Oxford VFW Post #6003 and King of Glory Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marvel of West Fargo, N.D.; sons, David (Camille) Nelson of Milwaukee, Wisc. and Scott (Kim) Mossestad of Waterford, Wisc.; daughters, Marilyn (Jim) Ouellette of Wisconsin Dells, Wisc. and Lauri (Leo) Joyce of Sauk City, Wisc.; three brothers, Oscar (Edna) of Thief River Falls, Stanley (Eunice) of Grand Marsh, Wisc. and Donald (Mona) of El Sobrante, Calif.; a sister, Lillian Braun of Menasha, Wisc.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; three brothers, Arthur, George and Oliver Mossestad; and three sisters, Lousie Battenfeld, Agnes Selvog and Hilda Cator. A00003B2003FB05
