Sheldon Mortrud, 73

Fargo, N.D. - Sheldon P. Mortrud, 73, died Saturday, May 5, 2001 at his home in Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at St. Paul's Free Lutheran Church in Fargo with Rev. James Fugleberg officiating. Burial was in Alma Lutheran Cemetery, rural Argyle. Boulger Funeral Home of Fargo, was in charge of the arrangements.

Sheldon L. Mortrud was born on November 26, 1927 in Newfolden, the son of Swan and Karen (Dyrud) Mortrud. He grew up in Newfolden and attended Oak Grove High School in Fargo. Sheldon served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He married Delores Moe on February 17, 1952. She died in June of 1988. On July 1, 1989, Sheldon married Mary H. Foy in Lake Park. He worked most of his life as a pipefitter and steamfitter.

Sheldon enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Fargo; four daughters, Sonia (Don) Balmer of Thief River Falls, Marilee (Mitchell) Johnson of Minneapolis, Debra (Craig) Benson of Radcliffe, Iowa and Cindy (Ron) Petsinger of Arvilla, N.D.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one uncle, Amos (Ovidie) Dyrud of Minneapolis.

Sheldon was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and two sisters, Lucille Nelson and Marcella Taie. A00003B2000MY09
