Homer Morgan, 89

Fosston - Homer Morgan, 89, died on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at First Care Hospital in Fosston.

Funeral services were held on Homer  Morgan Monday, November 25 at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. John Dalen officiating. Casketbearers were Tom Fritel, Edward "Fritz" Fritel, Tim Fritel, John Halland, Jerry Davidson and Ray Voxland. Honorary casketbearers were all of Homer's family and friends. Interment was in Kingo Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston with military honors accorded by Tangen-Walstrom American Legion Post #114 of Fosston.

Homer Morgan was born on April 22, 1913, the son of Walter and Mabel (Olson) Morgan in Whitewood, Saskatchewan. As a child, he moved with his parents to Minnesota, living in various cities before settling in Lessor Township of rural McIntosh. During his time in Lessor, Homer began working for the Soo Line Railroad. He entered the United States Army in January of 1944. He served until his honorable discharge in December of 1944. He returned to Minnesota after the service and continued to work for Soo Line.

On August 19, 1950, Homer married Charlotte Jacobson in Bismarck, N.D. The couple lived in Bismarck, N.D., then moved to Thief River Falls, where they lived until 1960. They spent a short time in Minot, N.D. and then moved to Enderlin, N.D. until 1966. At that time, they moved to Glenwood, where Homer retired in 1975. They returned to Thief River Falls. Charlotte died in 1985 and Homer moved to Fosston.

On June 12, 1987, he married Pearl Vinge in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Fosston. He was a member of Kingo Lutheran Church and received a pin honoring 55 years of service with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Homer was an avid fisherman and liked caring for his yard, his flowers and was known for his story-telling.

Survivors include his daughter, Patricia (Edward) Fritel of Cando, N.D.; two step-daughters, Carol Sutherland of St. Louis Park and Virginia (Don) Chizek of Fort Dodge, Iowa; one step-son, Bill Peterson of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; seven step-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Davidson and Mildred Anderson, both of Fosston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Homer was preceded in death by his wives, Charlotte and Pearl; his parents; three sisters, Josephine Morgan, Jessie Thompson and Tina Voxland. A00003B2002NV27
