George Monroe, 86

Radium - George Monroe, 86, died Thursday, November 1, 2001 at North Valley Health Center in Warren.

Funeral services were held at 10 Monroe Obit a.m. Monday, November 5, at Zion Lutheran Church in Warren with Rev. Don Kirchner officiating. Marlene Silnes was the organist, and the soloist was Nancy Monroe. Casketbearers were Jami Peterson, Trevor Monroe, Todd Monroe, Shelby Breker, Kari Hanson, Adrie Halvorson, Tana Hoard and Leah Halvorson. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Warren with Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home of Warren in charge of the arrangements.

George Walter Monroe was born on February 22, 1915 at Radium, the son of Fred and Anna (Schantzen) Monroe. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended school in the Radium area.

On August 15, 1941, George was united in marriage to Evaleth Thun at Strandquist. The couple purchased a farm near Radium where George had since resided. Evaleth died on November 9, 1995.

George was active in church and community activities. He was a member of the Comstock Township Board and Marshall County Co-op Board, 1952 Master Farmer, 1977 Red River Valley Farmer, and Outstanding Thoroughbred Breeder and Owner 1976 and 1977.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, thoroughbred racing, visiting friends and talking about his grandchildren.

George is survived by a son, Milo (Lois) Monroe of Warren; two daughters, Kay (David) Hanson and Jill (Myron) Halvorson, both of West Fargo, N.D.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Esther Hill of Warren, Ruby Larson of Denver, Colo. and Ramona Monroe of Arvada, Colo.; a brother, James (Carol) Monroe of Warren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Clarence Monroe and Art Monroe; and four sisters, Opal Aase, Della Conley, Ozelle Aultman and Loretta Rasmussen. A00003B2001NV07
