Stanley Moen, 82

Middle River - Stanley O. Moen, 82, died on Thursday, January 16, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. Moen, Stanley

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22 (today) at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with Rev. Mary Gaebler officiating. Lois Peterson will be the organist. Casketbearers will be Stanley's grandsons, Lyle Moen, Delwin Johnson, Jr., Jake Moen, Justin Moen, Quinten Rasmussen, Tyron Jones and Alfred Knutson. Honorary casketbearers will be Stanley's granddaughters, Christine Moen, April Craft, Kristen Johnson, Lynn Jones, Stephanie Dearinger, James Johnson and Donna Huestis. Interment will be in Spruce Valley Cemetery in Middle River with military honors accorded by the Middle River American Legion.

Stanley O. Moen was born on September 17, 1920, the son of Arthur Justin and Elma Jane (Ellingson-Kalisko) Moen in Manfred, N.D. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Newfolden. He worked for area farmers until he entered the United States Army on July 15, 1942, during World War II. He was stationed in Rhineland and Central Europe. Stanley was honorably discharged on November 21, 1945 at Fort Bragg, N.C. He continued to work for area farmers following his discharge.

On April 27, 1947, he married Stella Mae Lamb. The couple moved to Havre, Mont. and worked for Roy Burger for a time before moving to Big Sandy, Mont., where he farmed and ranched. Stanley also worked for a farm and ranch Ford Tractor company and was transferred to Fort Benton in 1961. A few years later, he was transferred to Havre, Mont. and retired in 1982. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved back to Middle River.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mechanics, puzzles, playing pool, gardening and making the daily rounds to visit his friends. He was a member of the Middle River American Legion and the American Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Stella of Middle River; children, Judy Johnson of Grafton, N.D., Dolly (Elmer) Rasmussen of Middle River, Ruby Moen of Jonesboro, Ga., Arthur (Diane) Moen of Middle River, Darlene (Delwin, Sr.) Johnson of Middle River and Wade Moen of Thief River Falls; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Leland (Fae) Moen of Holt; and several nieces and nephews.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Marvin Moen. A00003B2002JA22
