Curtis Mjelde, 74

Fargo, N.D. - Curtis LeVoy Mjelde, 74, of Beltrami, died on Friday, October 25, 2002 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 29 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Beltrami. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in rural Beltrami.

Curtis LeVoy Mjelde was born on February 16, 1927, the son of Norman and Marie (Sandem) Mjelde in Scandia Township, Beltrami. He attended White Dove Rural School before attending Beltrami High School. Following his education, Curtis worked on the family farm. On April 24, 1946, he was inducted into the United States Army, serving as a guard patrolman. He was honorable discharged on April 20, 1947 and returned to Neillsville.

On November 18, 1948, Curtis was united in marriage to Dorothy Grosfield in Shelly. The couple made their home in Neillsville. In 1950, they moved to Beltrami where he was employed at the LP Gas Plant. He eventually became the manager of the plant. He also worked for Bell Tone Hearing Aids with his brother and managed the Co-Op Grocery store in Beltrami. He retired in 1980. Following his retirement, Curtis assisted the local farmers. He was a member of the American Legion Post #626, Beltrami Fire Department and Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a past member of the Beltrami School Board.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Beltrami; four sons, Steve of Grand Forks, N.D., Tom (Pat) of Newfolden, Joey (Becky) of Castro Valley, Calif. and Jim (Julie) of Omaha, Neb.; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Archie (Corrine) of Silver Bay and Ira (Marjorie) of Erskine; one sister, Nelda Thompson of Fargo, N.D.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Vernon and Maurice; and one sister, Inez Marsh. A00003B2002OT30
