Ervin M. Miller was born on November 21, 1919 near Beaulieu, the son of Stephen and Mary (Stalboerger) Miller. He grew up on a farm north of Beaulieu and attended country school. As a young man, he farmed with his father and also drove the cream truck throughout the area.

On June 10, 1941 he married Florence Voit. For the first few years of their marriage, the couple farmed on several places northeast of Mahnomen before purchasing a farm east of Beaulieu. They spent the next 40 years on that farm. Ervin was also employed by the ASC office in Mahnomen for many years, where he worked with the area farmers. He served on the Soil Conservation Board for nearly 30 years. In 1988, he and Florence moved into Mahnomen, where they had since resided.

Ervin was an avid fisherman and spent countless hours on the area lakes. He also loved playing cribbage and woodworking. One of the things he enjoyed most was spending time with his many friends at the Red Apple Café.

Survivors include his wife, Florence of Mahnomen; five daughters, Joyce (Don) Klinkhammer of Waubun, Linda (Doug) Hand of Fosston, Nancy (Doug) Nelson of Ramsey, Phyllis (Mike) Inwards of Pelican Rapids and Gayle (Bob) Halvorson of White House, Tenn.; four sons, Robert (Phyllis) of St. Hilaire, George (Delores) of Mahnomen, Rick (Dyanne) of Fertile and Daniel (Gayla Gervais) of Mentor; one brother, Wilbert (Barbara) of Beaulieu; 32 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
