Norman Midthun, 77

Thief River Falls - Norman Midthun, 77, died on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, in Thief River Falls.

Midthum, Norman Funeral services were held on Friday, November 22 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dennis Raymond officiating. Phyllis Dalager was the organist and Dave Morken was the soloist. Casketbearers were Erick Olson, Steve Thompson, Larry Thompson, Dale Thompson, Tim Marden and Adam Dahl. Honorary casketbearers were Les Vignes, Cliff Vignes, Elling Iverson, Jim Matson, Dan Shefland, Leonard Olson, Jim Dalager, Cliff Sanbeck and all of Norman's friends. Interment was in Big Grove Cemetery in Brooten with military honors accorded by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793.

Norman Myron Midthun was born on January 27, 1925, the son of Lars and Irene (Wilhelmson) Midthun in Crosby. He grew up and attended school in Staples. Norman entered the United States Army during World War II and served in the Philippines and Occupation of Japan.

On June 10, 1951, Norman was united in marriage to Adeline Thompson in Brooten. He graduated from Concordia College with a degree in social work and also attended the University of Nebraska, graduating with a master's degree in social work. Norman was employed as director of the Lake Park Wild Rice Children's Home, the Fergus Falls State Hospital, Lutheran Social Services of Fargo, N.D., Pennington County Human Services in Thief River Falls and worked part-time with Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and enjoyed singing in the choir.

Survivors include his wife, Adeline of Thief River Falls; one daughter, Brenda "Jacy" (Leonard) Olson of Viking; one son, David of Denver, Colo.; a granddaughter; one sister, Lorraine (Connie) Marden of Mankato; and several nieces and nephews.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gordon. A00003B2002NV27
