P. Roger Mickelson, 75

Goodridge - P. Roger Mickelson, 75, died on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at his home in rural Goodridge.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 27 at Telemarken Lutheran Church of rural Goodridge with the Rev. Raynard Huglen officiating. Casketbearers were Gary Roisland, Duane Lindblom, Sheldon Knutson, Gary Johnson, Jon Wilson and Mike Hemmestvedt. Interment was in Telemarken Cemetery.

Roger Mickelson was born in Twin Valley on March 16, 1928, the son of Herbert M. and Agnes Beatta (Norby) Mickelson and was raised by Julius and Emma Hanson of rural Goodridge. He was baptized in Twin Valley and confirmed at Telemarken Lutheran Church. He attended Meadowlark School District #41 through the eighth grade. He attended Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, graduating in 1947.

On October 10, 1948 he married Doloris L. Beiswenger in Thief River Falls. The couple farmed near Goodridge. Roger served on the Telemarken Lutheran Church board as trustee from 1960-1978 and has been chairman since 1978. He served on the Kratka Township Board as supervisor from 1958-1976 and has been the clerk since 1976. He was a member of the Pennington County Township Officers Association and served as chairman from 1978-1988. Roger also served on the Thief River Falls Creamery Board, was elected director in 1963 and served as vice president from 1964-1983. He was treasurer of the Meadowlark School District and member of the DHIA Board, where he served as director, vice chairman and vice president. He was FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer in 1973 and Pennington County Honorary Dairy Farmer in 1977.

Survivors include his wife, Doloris of Goodridge; children, Beattie Mickelson of Goodridge, Angela (Nick) Frey of Santa Rosa, Calif., Paula (Harvey) Syltie of Porter, Harold of Spicer, Stuart of Warroad, Timothy of Goodridge and Thomas (Rebecca) of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren; one brother, Howard (Pat) of Shoreline, Wash.; one sister, Ruth (Paul) Idstrom of Spicer; an aunt and several nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by a son, Harlan; his parents; two sisters, Charlotte Ryding and Beth Traxler; one brother, Myron; and a daughter-in-law, Heidi Mickelson.
