Genevieve Mercil, 76

Thermopolis, Wy. - Genevieve "Gen" Mercil, 76, formerly of Brooks, died Monday, October 8, 2001 at the home of her son, Dean, in Thermopolis, Wy.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, October 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Brooks with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Brooks.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary service at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Brooks and also for one hour prior to services Friday. Johnson Funeral Service of Oklee is in charge of the arrangements.

Genevieve Marie Bourgeois was born on May 28, 1925 in Brooks, the daughter of Harvey and Hatti (Champagne) Bourgeois. She was united in marriage to Donald Mercil on August 3, 1943.

Genevieve was a housewife and mother to 11 children. When the family moved to Drayton, N.D. in 1964, she worked as a cook at Andy's and then was employed at the Grafton State School in Grafton, N.D. In 1981, the family moved to Thermopolis, Wy. where Genevieve worked along side her husband in the construction business. Following their retirement in 1999, Genevieve and Donald enjoyed traveling.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Thermopolis and enjoyed crafts, yard work and flower gardening.

Genevieve is survived by her husband, Donald of Thermopolis, Wy.; five sons, Gary (Susie) Mercil of Townsend, Wisc., LeRoy (Mary) Mercil of Brooks, Allen Mercil of Grand Forks, N.D., Dean (Diane) Mercil of Thermopolis, Wy. and Kenneth (Audrey) Mercil of Grafton, N.D.; six daughters, Marlene Hince of Rock Springs, Wy., Sharon (Chester) Paschke of Grand Forks, N.D., Betty (Dean) Staskivige and Karen (Bob) Halcrow, both of Drayton, N.D., Diane Hibdon of Casper, Wy. and Deborah (Stan) Huebner of Thompson, N.D.; a brother, Donald Bourgeois of South Milwaukee, Wisc.; five sisters, Beatrice Gilger of Bonita Springs, Fla., Delores Boucher and Kathleen Warrick, both of South Milwaukee, Wisc., Carol Odegard of Franklin, Wisc. and Eileen Lemaire of Dunchurch, Ontario, Canada; 34 grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and one step great- great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Darrel Bourgeois. A00003B2001OC10
