Olga Melby, 98

McIntosh - Olga J. Melby, 98, formerly of Oklee, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh.

Funeral services were held at Melby obit 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee with Rev. Robert Paulson officiating. Barb Melby was the organist,and the vocalists were Carolyn Rystad and Lori Melby. Casketbearers were Allen Melby, David Melby, Richard Melby, Mike Melby, Bob Melby and John Melby. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Oklee with Johnson Funeral Service of Oklee in charge of the arrangements.

Olga Juliet Melby was born on January 19, 1903 in Wilton, the daughter of Thomas and Inga (Dahl) Melby. She moved to Oklee in 1910 when her father and uncle Ole started Melby Brothers Mercantile. Olga graduated from Oklee High School and went on to get her teaching certificate from Bemidji State College. She then taught school in McIntosh and Cass Lake. She moved to Blue Island, Ill. where she taught elementary school until her retirement in 1964. Following her retirement, she returned to Oklee where she taught part-time for a few years.

Olga was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church of Oklee.

She enjoyed flower gardening, reading and fancywork. She was an avid Twins fan.

Olga is survived by 13 nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law; and many great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Andor Melby, Orrin Melby and Wilton "Stubs" Melby; and a sister-in-law.
