William Meader, 79

Karlstad - William Meader, 79, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 15, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church at Karlstad. Military honors were accorded by Karlstad American Legion Post 445. Interment was in Eidsvold Cemetery in Halma with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad in charge of the arrangements.

William Merrian Meader was born on May 19, 1921 at Baldwin, N.D., the son of Albert and Sophie (Golby) Meader. As a child, he moved with his family to Williams and later to Karlstad where he attended school. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945.

On September 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Betty Hanson at Lancaster. The couple lived in Lancaster and Strandquist prior to moving to Karlstad where they had since resided. Bill worked at the American Crystal Sugar Plant at Drayton, N.D. for eight years and for Ernest Carlson farms at Karlstad for 13 years in addition to working for several other area farmers.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church of Karlstad and Karlstad American Legion Post 445.

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Richard of St. Paul and William Jr. (Myrna) of Karlstad; two daughters, Janet (John) Larsen of Embarrass and Darlene Amundson of Karlstad; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Randy and one in infancy; three daughters, Kathleen, Sharon and one in infancy; a grandson, Harlan "Pete;" a brother, Clarence; and two sons-in-law, Duane and Greg. A00003B2000MY16
