Mary Catherine McNellis, 83

Maplewood - Mary Catherine NcNellis, 83, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Monday, September 9, 2002 at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood.

Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, September 12 at St. Pius X in White Bear Lake. Interment was held on Friday, September 13 at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Detroit Lakes.

Mary Catherine McNellis was born on September 22, 1918, the daughter of Michael and Catherine Carew McNellis in Detroit Lakes. After graduating from St. Scholastica in Duluth, she began teaching in Thief River Falls. Her teaching career spanned 49 years. In 1989, Mary Catherine retired from White Bear High School where she taught business and shorthand for 32 years.

Mary Catherine loved spending time with her family and many friends. She will be remembered for her Irish spirit and sense of humor, her love of adventure, travel, reading and good conversation. She also enjoyed genealogy research and acquired computer skills later in life.

Survivors include a brother, Joseph of Wayne, Pa.; two nephews; five nieces; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James. A00003B2002SP25
