Ray McKown, 68

McKown obitFourtown - Ray McKown, 68, died Thursday, June 7, 2001 at his home in Fourtown in Beltrami county.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 16, at 1 p.m. at the Fourtown Store with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Arrangements are with Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls.

Delbert Ray McKown was born on October 17, 1932 in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the son of Delbert Hadley and Pauline (Kindred) McKown. He was baptized and confirmed at Winnwood Baptist Church and attended Barnes Grade School. In June of 1950, he graduated from North Kansas High School.

Following graduation, Ray entered the United States Navy and was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. He was trained as a radio flight operator, graduating from the course quicker than any other individual in Naval history. Following his honorable discharge in 1953, Ray was responsible for 17 states and eastern Canada as a regional sales manager for Morton Frozen Foods and was employed with the company from 1954 through 1968. He was later hired as general manager for Booth Fisheries. Promotions included national sales manager and six month later vice president.

On March 16, 1965, he was united in marriage to Judy Diane Jokela in Chicago, Ill. In 1981, he stared Ray McKown and Associates Sales Marketing Company. He retired in 1998. In January of 1995, the couple moved to Grygla.

Ray was clerk of Minnie township for three and one-half years, and he and Judy were instrumental in transforming Lone Oak Cemetery into a holy garden.

He enjoyed sports, especially golf, and was an avid reader.

Ray is survived by his wife, Judy of Fourtown; two sons, Kenny (Cindy) McKown of Clearwater, Fla. and David (Tracy) McKown of Reno, Nev.; four grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Kimberly (Monty) Hayes of Crystal Lake, Ill.; a stepson, Michael Tate of Minneapolis; three step grandchildren; two brothers, Bob (Pat) McKown of Fallbrok, Calif. and James McKown of Kansas City, Mo.; and a sister, Betty (John) Macken of North Kansas City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; several uncles and aunts; an a sister-in-law.
