Gertrude Marty, 82

Dickinson, N.D. - Gertrude Marty, 82, formerly of Plummer, died on Friday, August 15, 2003 at gertrude marty St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson, N.D.

Memorial services were held on August 16 at Ladbury Funeral Service in Dickinson with the Rev. Steven Schou officiating. Inurnment was in Dickinson Cemetery.

Gertrude Lois Miller was born on June 8, 1921 in Beulah, N.D., the daughter of Roy S. and Ella E. (Shattuck) Miller. She moved to Killdeer with her parents when she was 13 years old. The family lived on a small ranch north of Killdeer, where she attended school at Mountain View. She moved back to Beulah, where she worked as a house girl. She lived with her grandmother, where she spent the winter caring for her and working other various jobs.

On July 5, 1940, Gertrude was united in marriage to Robert J. Marty in Manning, N.D. The couple lived near Killdeer, where she raised her children and worked at a restaurant. In 1968, they moved to Plummer where she helped farm, milk cows, worked at a café, butcher shop, Camplin Gas Station and various waitress jobs. They later moved back to Dickinson, where she retired and in June 1999, she became a resident of the St. Benedict's Health Center. Gertrude was a 4-H leader and member of the Holly-hock Homemakers Club for 10 years. She enjoyed working on arts and crafts.

Survivors include her nine children, Elaine (Dick) Semingson of Dickinson, N.D., Jim (Shirley) of Sun City, Ariz., Donna (David) Kono of Rhame, N.D., Leslie Marty of Salton Sea Beach, Calif., Lynn (Diane) of Hardin, Mont., Charlene (Richard) Schoenbeck of Belfield, N.D., Harold (Beverly) of Clarksville, Tenn., Erwin (Peggy) of Yucaipa, Calif., and Peggy (Randy) Hlebechuk of Rhame, N.D.; 27 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her son, Curtis; one brother, Charlie Miller; two sisters, Millie Huckabe and Beulah Moe; her parents; and her husband. A00003B2003AG20
