Sharon Martinson, 58

Barnesville - Sharon I. Martinson, 58, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Friday, September 20, 2002 at Meritcare Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

S. Martinson Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 25 (today) at 11 a.m. at Bakke Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes with Rev. John Lee officiating. Visitation will take place for two hours prior to services at the church. Casketbearers will be Jerry Butenhoff, Doug Butenhoff, Andy Samuelson, Louise Samuelson, Leland Mott Jr. and Allen Honer. Honorary casketbearers will be all of Sharon's grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Bakke Lutheran Cemetery in Detroit Lakes.

Sharon Possehl was born on December 14, 1943, the daughter of Lester and Matilda (Butenhoff) Possehl in Fargo, N.D. She grew up and attended school in the Baker area and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1961. On January 21, 1963, she married Douglas Martinson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin. The couple made their home in Detroit Lakes where she worked for St. Mary's Nursing Center. In 1969, they moved to Thief River Falls where she worked at a nursing home. In 1977, they moved to Lake Park where she worked for Sunnyside Care Center and in 1978 they moved to the Chelmo Turkey Farm near Detroit Lakes. She went back to work at St. Mary's Nursing Center. Throughout the years, Sharon helped her husband with the farming responsibilities. They moved back to Detroit Lakes in 1984 and in 2000, they moved to Barnesville. Douglas died in 2001. That same year, Sharon became a resident of the Barnesville Good Samaritan Center where she arranged flowers and was involved in the Care Center's activities. She lived there until the time of her death.

Sharon was a member of Bakke Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. She loved to cook and bake, enjoyed crocheting, making afghans, beadwork and other crafts and enjoyed gatherings at her home. She was a fan of Perry Mason and other detective stories and was an avid reader. Sharon loved animals, especially cats and small dogs.

Survivors include four sons, Rod, Jeffrey (fiancé, Jodi Singleton), Scott and Joseph, all of Barnesville; a daughter, Brenda (Ross) Amundson of Barnesville; her mother, Matilda Possehl of Alexandria; five grandchildren; four sisters, Marion (James) Szymanski of Minot, N.D., Jean (Jack) Samuelson of Little Falls, Diane Scarr of Fargo, N.D. and Darlene (Duane) Samuelson of Kensington.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father and her husband.
