Rudolph Martinson, 79

Thief River Falls - Rudolph "Rudy" Martinson, 79, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20 at Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Wes Langaas officiating. Ida Nordvall was organist and Chris Cuppett, the soloist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." Casketbearers were Randy Knott, Ira Johnson, Michael Lane, Derek Mosloff, Matthew Wold and Tim Carlson.

Rudolph "Rudy" Martinson was born January 3, 1923 in Karlstad, the son of Nels (Per) and Brita (Wikholm) Martinson. He was baptized in the Christian faith and attended school in Halma and Karlstad.

Rudy married Clarice Alida Bertilrud in Greenbush on November 22, 1947. The couple farmed near Greenbush until 1962 when they moved to Sanders Township, near Thief River Falls, to farm. Rudy was also employed at the Occupational Development Center and Arctic Cat.

Some of Rudy's hobbies included reading and gardening and he also enjoyed wildlife. He loved visiting with his wonderful family, friends and neighbors, which he included as a joyful part of his daily life. Rudy and his wife were foster parents for ten years.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice of Thief River Falls; daughter, Jennifer (Greg) Bymark, Page, N.D.; son, Wayne (Carole), Sacramento, Calif.; a grandson; foster daughter, Betty (Dennis) Erickson, Warroad; two foster grandchildren; a sister, Lilly Nordlund, Hallock; and many nieces and nephews.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Alice, Myrtle, Elsie, Bertha and an infant sister; and brothers, Edward, George, Woodrow, Ferdie, Harold and a brother in infancy.
