Thief
River Falls - Thelma Manning, 84, died Tuesday,
July 20, 2004 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC
Unit, in Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services were held on Monday, July 26, at Zion
Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev.
Gary Johnson officiating. Casket bearers included
Thelma's grandsons, Doug Suronen, Robby Suronen,
Chad Manning, Chris Manning, Ryon Clow, C. J. Fox,
Danny Suronen and Brent Voeller. Honorary casket
bearers included all of Thelma's granddaughters and
great-granddaughters. Interment was held at
Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Thelma E.
Vigesaa was born February 14, 1920 in Cooperstown,
N.D., the daughter of Aadne and Laura (Houghton)
Vigesaa. She grew up and attended school in Twin
Valley.
On
September 25, 1936, Thelma was united in marriage
to Lawrence "Bud" Manning in Cooperstown, N.D. They
lived in Grand Forks, N.D. and moved to Thief River
Falls, where she has since resided. Bud died on
November 5, 1986. On November 22, 1994, she married
Gresmond Bruggeman. They resided in Thief River
Falls. He died in June 1999.
She
worked in numerous businesses in Thief River Falls
before owning and operating Third Street
Café and Tastee Freeze. She was employed at
Hardee's for 18 years before ill health forced her
retirement in 2000. Thelma was a resident of Thief
River Falls for 52 years.
Thelma
was a member and officer in Eagles Auxiliary, VFW
Auxiliary and Cooties. She loved life, her family
and enjoyed dancing, playing Bingo and visiting
with friends.
Survivors
include her children, Duane (Dee) Manning of
Wichita, Kan., Shirley Porter (Bill Denny) of Fort
Worth, Texas, Jerry (Beth) Manning of Des Moines,
Iowa, Yvonne Suronen and Peggy (Gary) Clow of Thief
River Falls and Rocky (Becky Harmon) Manning of
Moorhead; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren;
one step-granddaughter and two step
great-grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by two husbands; a son, Robert
"Butch"; her parents; one brother; five sisters and
her son-in-law, James Suronen.
