- Edward Mackenroth, 85, died Friday, June 22,
2001 at Rice Memorial Hospital in
Willmar.
Mass
of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, June 26,
at 8:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Willmar with Father Samuel Perex Tax officiating.
Special music was provided by Regina Coeli Schola
of St. Mary's. Casketbearers were Edward's
grandsons, Tony Mackenroth, Vince Mackenroth, John
Mackenroth, Michael Mackenroth, Wayne Mackenroth
and Nick Mackenroth. Honorary casketbearers were
Tony Noel, Jeff Noel, Keith Mackenroth and Andy
Murphy. Military honors were accorded by Robert
Ihland American Legion Post 537 of New London and
Fort Snelling Honor Guard. Interment was in Fort
Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis with
Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar in charge
of the arrangements.
Edward
Bernard Mackenroth was born on April 18, 1916 in
Stampede, N.D., the son of Frank and Dorothy
(Hulick) Mackenroth. He grew up in the Stampede
area and attended school there. Edward worked with
the CCC for a year before becoming a truck driver,
hauling agricultural products.
In
January of 1938, he married Lois Cote in Thief
River Falls. In 1940, they moved to St. Paul where
he went to work for Northern Railroad. In 1944, he
entered the U.S. Army, serving during World War II
in the European Theater. After his discharge in
1946, he returned to St. Paul and worked for the
Great Northern Railroad. He retired from Burlington
Northern Railroad as an engineer in
1977.
Edward
was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive
Engineers, the BN Vets, the New London American
Legion and the Willmar VFW.
He
enjoyed hunting, fishing and helping
others.
Edward
is survived by four sons, Roger (Annette)
Mackenroth of Maplewood, Harold (Ramona) Mackenroth
of Wyoming, Richard (Jaynelle) Mackenroth of
Madison, Wisc. and Thomas of Minnesota; 10
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great
great-granddaughter; two sisters, Tressia Noel of
Thief River Falls and Alice Severson of California;
two half brothers, Lauris Krogstad of Clearwater
and Junior Krogstad of California; and several
other relatives.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and a brother,
