Vera Lundgren, 101 Thief River Falls - Vera Lundgren, 101, died on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 4 at 2 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Detroit Lakes. Vera Julia Parsons was born on May 19, 1902 in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of Samuel and Anna Parsons. Her father died prior to her birth. She moved with her mother and sister to North Dakota, where her mother remarried. They moved to northern Minnesota, where she lived until she left home to work in Minneapolis as a salad and pastry chef, and then to Seattle, Wash., where she worked as a chef at several restaurants. On March 10, 1948, Vera was united in marriage to August Mark Lundgren. They continued to work in Washington state until they retired and returned to Detroit Lakes to live at her parents' rural home. They enjoyed traveling and visiting the many friends they had made over the years. Mark died in 1968 and Vera moved to a home in Detroit Lakes and then to an apartment and later to Lamplighter Senior Housing in Detroit Lakes. She enjoyed caring for her home and garden and visiting with friends. She was a member of the Detroit Lakes Seventh Day Adventist Church and enjoyed helping in the Adventist Community Services Center. Vera was able to maintain her driving skills well into her nineties. When age made her unable to live by herself, she moved to Thief River Falls to be closer to her family. Survivors include two nephews and four nieces. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Mark; sisters, Ella Connelly, Viola Bray and Mildred Odegaard; and one nephew. A00003B2003OT01
