Robert J. Looker, 82

Grand Forks, N.D. - Robert J. Looker, 82, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Saturday, December 21, 2002 at his home. Looker

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 27 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Grand Forks, N.D. Casketbearers will be Robert's grandsons. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 26 at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, N.D. Visitation will also take place for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Following interment, refreshments will be served in the community room at the C'Mon Inn in Thief River Falls. Memorials are preferred to Altru Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Robert John Looker was born on June 16, 1920, the son of Robert E. and Grace (Bannerman) Looker in Bismarck, N.D. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1938. He began working for the Soo Line Railroad of Thief River Falls in 1940. Robert served in the U.S. Army overseas during World War II. In 1945, he returned to Thief River Falls to continue work for the Soo Line Railroad. He retired in 1980.

On March 8, 1942, he married Bernice Nesland at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee. He was a member of the Northern Lodge #236 Masons of Thief River Falls, the Royal Arch Masons of Thief River Falls, the Constantice Commandry #20 of Crookston, the Kem Temple of the Shrine of Grand Forks, N.D. and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry of Grand Forks, N.D. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #117, past Lieutenant Governor of the Golden Kiwanis, the Elk Lodge #1308 and the Winslow Chapter #182 Order of the Eastern Star, all of Thief River Falls. He was also a member of the United Transportation Union of Thief River Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice of Grand Forks, N.D.; a sister, Norma Jean Looker of Mission, Texas; children, Mary Jenson of Mission, Texas, Susan (Jim) Englestad of Fargo, N.D., and Roberta Looker, Jon (Junell), Ruth (Roger) Olson and Michael (Karen) Looker, all of Thief River Falls, and Nancy (Paul) Boerboom of Hartford, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Earl Jensen. A00003B2002DC25
