- Marlys Marie Lien, 83, of Gonvick, died on
Saturday, April 17, 2004 at First Care Nursing Home
in Fosston.
Funeral
Services were held on Thursday, April 22, at the
Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick, with the Rev.
Eric Midthun officiating. Interment was held at the
church cemetery in Gonvick.
She
was born February 16, 1921 in Red Lake Falls, the
daughter of Monrad and Mabel (Wiberg) Stenvold. She
married Arnold Lien November 22, 1942 in Trail.
They lived on a farm West of Gonvick. She bought
the Sunflower Café in 1969 and ran the
restaurant until 1980. She continued to work there
for five years after selling the business. During
her semi-retirement she started catering weddings
and church functions. In her spare time she
traveled. Her hobbies included crocheting, making
doughnuts, quilting and baking.
Survivors
include her children, Bob (Diane) Lien of
Cambridge, Les (Joan) Lien of Gonvick, Ardis
(Larry) Dathe of Bemidji, Carol Lien of Thief River
Falls and Eileen Lien of Gonvick; two sisters,
Beverly (Torry) Ostenaa of Fosston and Terry
Woodford of Coon Rapids; one brother, Al (Lovey)
Stenvold of Grand Forks, N.D.; nine grandchildren;
and 10 great grandchildren
She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband
in 1965, son Frank and brother Talmadge.
