Leona Lien, 88

Twin Valley - Leona B. Lien, 88, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home in Twin Valley.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley, with Rev. Terry Hagensen officiating and a special message by Rev. Kenneth Rust. Jolee Habedank was the organist, and Teresa Dahlen and Mark Habedank were the vocalists. Casketbearers were Roger Bentley, Keven Paulsrud, Bruce Paulsrud, Brian Swenson, Robert Swenson, Jarrod Lien, Brandon Lien, Robert Dahlen, and Mike Schlichtmann. Interment was in Wild Rice Lutheran Cemetery, rural Twin Valley, with Anderson Funeral Home in Twin Valley in charge of the arrangements.

Leona B. Prestegord was born October 23, 1913 in Fossum Township, the daughter of Theodore and Martha (Baslie) Prestegord. She was baptized and confirmed at Wild Rice Lutheran Church in Twin Valley and attended local schools. She and her parents lived for a short while in Grand Forks and Gilby, N.D.

On April 21, 1936, Leona was united in marriage to Odin Lien at the Wild Rice Parsonage, rural Twin Valley. After their marriage, the couple took over Odin's family farm in Flom Township where they were actively engaged in farming for many years. After retiring in 1965, they moved into Twin Valley where Leona worked at Southside Café and Lutheran Memorial Retirement Center for several years. Odin died on July 20, 1973, and Leona moved into Johnson Apartments in 1978. In 1992, she moved to Lutheran Memorial Retirement Center and in 1996 to Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home where she had since resided.

She taught Sunday school and was active in Ladies Aid.

Leona enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, crocheting, knitting, tatting, quilting, and sewing clothes for her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Marlys (Eldo) Bentley of Twin Valley, LuVerne (Eugene) Paulsrud of Hillsboro, N.D., and Elaine (Charles) Swenson of Thief River Falls; a son, Everett (Patricia) Lien of Maple Grove; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Leona in death were her parents; an infant brother; her husband; a son, Phillip; and a grandson, Jacob Bentley. A00003B2002MY08
