Thief
River Falls - Omer Lian, 81, died Sunday,
January 6, 2002 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in
Erskine.
Funeral
services were held at 2
p.m.
Tuesday, January 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in
Thief River Falls with Rev. Gary Johnson
officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and Van
Swanson was the soloist. Casket-bearers were Ralph
Lian, Randy Lian, Ross Lian, Keith Hed, Jeremy Lian
and Chad Lian. Honorary casketbearers were all of
Omer's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Interment was in St. Pauli Cemetery in Rocksbury
Township of Pennington County with Green Funeral
Home in charge of the arrangements.
Omer
L. Lian was born on March 12, 1920 in Rocksbury
Township of Pennington County, the son of Ole and
Hildur (Gustafson) Lian. He grew up in rural Thief
River Falls where he attended a country school. He
farmed with his dad.
On
November 28, 1948, Omer was united in marriage to
Margaret Erickson. The couple made their home with
Omer's parents. They farmed until 1954 when they
moved to Aurora where Omer worked in the mines. In
1957, they moved to Omaha, Neb. where Omer worked
construction. They moved back to Thief River Falls
in 1960. Omer worked as a local truck driver for
Wedul Trucking and then worked for Thief River
Trucklines until his retirement in 1986.
He
enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing horseshoes,
hunting, playing baseball and watching the
Minnesota Twins.
Omer
was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and for a
short time, the Kiwanis.
Survivors
include his wife, Margaret; four sons, Ralph
(Virginia) of Badger, Randall and Ross (Annette),
both of Thief River Falls, and Richard (Elizabeth)
of May's Landing, N.J.; two daughters, Ruth (Keith)
Hed of Winthrop and Rebecca (Charles) Morgan of
Clinton, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Beverly Lian
of Thief River Falls; and several nieces and
nephews.
Omer
was preceded in death by his parents; a brother,
Armond Lian; and a brother-in-law.
